Stefano Domenicali spoke about Madrid`s chances of hosting the Formula 1 Grand Prix.


The contract with the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit is valid until 2026. The head of the series said that F1 was interested in Madrid`s proposal.


We have an agreement with the Barcelona track for the next few years and we are very happy with it.


Madrid proposed a new interesting project. It needs to be developed to understand how much sense it makes from a technical and economic point of view. This confirms that Formula 1 is becoming increasingly popular in Spain, also, of course, thanks to the performances of Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz. "Of course, this will help to develop a reliable solution regarding the future of Formula 1 in Spain, " said Domenicali.


Stefano noted that the most promising idea seems to him to be a race on a semi-urban circuit, and not a return to the Jarama circuit, where the Spanish Grand Prix was held in 1968-1981.


Organizing two Spanish rounds in one year seems unlikely to Domenicali:


This is happening in Italy, but we`ll see what happens in the future. Given our growth around the world, it is difficult to hold two Grands Prix in one European country. In other parts of the world - say, in the United States - the distances are completely different. Reality says it`s quite difficult, but never say never.
